Ten years have passed since general secretary Xi’s visit, and now, how are the people living in the Miao village of Shibadong? On October 17, the reporter walked into the Shibadong Village and experienced life here on the spot.

At about 9:30 a.m.,in the Arbor of Lizizhai early-risingladies of the Miao ethnic group were enjoying the sunshineleisurely. An old woman who sellscold noodles cleanedup her stall. "Would you like a bowl of cold noodles, sister?" "She shouted enthusiastically.

73-year-old Granny Shi Basanmoved a wicker chair and sat in front of her home to start, work. "The travel agency pays Shi a monthly salary of 1,500 yuan to tell tourists her story, and pose for photo-taking." Said Shi Yuyu, a member of the Shibadong Village Rural Revitalization Team. In addition, Shi' s family also receives an annual dividend from the village's kiwifruit industry.

Now she has learneda standard Putonghua. She smiles heartily and always says to visitors “Thank you”, “Thank you for your care”, and “Thank you for your hard work!

Ten years ago, Shi 's family was a poverty-stricken house hold in the village, living by growing crops. "There was not much income back then, not even enough to eat." Shi said. At that time, Tthe floor was dirty, sanitation was rarely considered and the only electrical appliance in the home was a 5-watt electric lamp.

Now Shi's home has changed dramatically, equipped with an electric fan, television, refrigerator cabinet, and washing machine...... Here is everything in need. "This TV is replaced in recent years by a new oneconnected to the internet." Shi said CCTV News Channel is her favourite.

"I plan to make some bacon this winter." Shi told reportersmany tourists to her home hope to buysome bacon.

The changes in Shi's home epitomize the "targeted poverty alleviation" in the Shibadong Village in recent years. Now the village has, stone roads to the doorsteps, water to every household, and full internet coverage. When you walk around the village, you can also find self-service banking branches, post offices, tax declaration branches and other modern facilities.

Such convenience is made possible with the development of industries in the village. Shi Jintong, a delegate of the 20th Party Congress and secretary of the Shibadong Village Party Branch said there are many industries in the village, including tourism, mountain spring water production, Miao embroidery, bacon, oil tea, etc. Villagers' life is getting more and more prosperous.

"In the past, there were only a few run-down cars and tractors in the village, but now almost every household has a car. In the past, most of therural women did farm work at home, but now they run homestay ordo some Miao embroidery..."

"Over the years, we have introduced state-owned enterprises, central enterprises and other affiliated companies to participate in the construction of the Shibadong Village, thus strengthening industrial cooperation and providing provide strong support for rural revitalization." Shi Jintong said.

Many young migrant worker snow choose to return home.

With the development ofthe Shibadong Village, many young people who worked in big cities have chosen to return to their hometowns. One of them is Yang Zhengbang, who has set up a hotelat home.

"During thepeakseason, were ceivean average of 30 tables of guestsa day, and our rooms are fully booked." Yang Zhengbang said.Tourists enjoy the Miao village style food at his home.

On the wall of Yang Zhengbang's homestay hangs a photo taken during Xi’s visit to the Shibadong Village. In the photo is Yang Zhengbang's eldest daughter, then a little girl being held someone's arm.

"She is in year three of junior high school this year and is preparing for senior high school. Her grades are good,so I am never worried about her performances at school." Speaking of his eldest daughter, Yang Zhengbang was grateful for working at home which gives him more time to stay with his children.

"Happy family" is the slogan painted outside the villager Yang Dongshi's house. Yang Dongshi is a retired teacher. He and his wife are both local Miaopeople.

"There is a farmers market every five days, so we used to wait till that day to sell wine on the marketwhich is inconvenient and not profitable at all. Now we sell it right atour doorstep. Many tourists like our wine when they have dinner eat at our home. Last year, I even spent 50,000 yuan redecorating my home." Yang Dongshi said. The Shibadong Village had truly changed a lot over the years. In addition to better living conditions, the villagers' way of thinking had also improved.

"When poverty alleviation working groupfirst came to the village, the villagers simply asked for money or waited for their share of financial aid." Yang Dongshi said. However, over years of work side-by-side with the poverty alleviation working group, the villagers gradually changed their deep-rooted thoughts and come to hold the view thata happy life lies on one’sown hands.

"Mine is a four-star households." Yang said. Every once in a while, the whole village vote to give each household a star.

As one of the main battlefields in China's fight against poverty, the reporter learned that in the past ten years, many poverty-stricken villages in Hunan, have successfully lifted themselves out of poverty like "the Shibadong Village". By the end of 2020, all 6.82 million registered poor personnel 6,920 registered poor villages and 51 poor counties in the province had been removed from the poverty list.
