Nanxian County in Yiyang is in the center of the Dongting Lake Area. In midsummer, various aquatic plants enter harvest season in the county, such as water caltrop, gorgon fruit, lotus seedpod, and lotus root. In order to ensure a fresh supply of these products, the local farmers pick the plants in the morning and promptly send them to the markets. There are vast plantations of water caltrop, gorgon fruit, lotus seedpod, and lotus root in many townships across the county, with a total area of more than 1,334 hectares.
