As part of the 2023 Hunan Eco-tourism Festival, the 15th Dawei Mountain Azalea Festival will take place in Liuyang from April 26 to May 16, according to a promotion conference held at the Liuyang Sky Theater on April 22 evening.

The festival is sponsored by the Hunan Provincial Department of Forestry and the Changsha Municipal People's Government; co-organized by the Changsha Municipal Bureau of Culture, Tourism, Radio and Television, the Changsha Municipal Bureau of Forestry and the People's Government of Liuyang City; and, undertaken by the Dawei Mountain National Forest Park Management Office, the Bureau of Culture, Tourism, Radio, Television and Sports of Liuyang City.
Five main activities will be organized during the festival, namely fireworks parties, release of fine tourism routes along the Liuyang River 100-mile Gallery (Dawei Mountain area), performances staged by singer Tang Yi, flower-admiring and source-tracing hiking activities, and an essay and photography competition themed "rediscovering Dawei Mountain".
Several fine tourism routes along the Liuyang River 100-mile Gallery (Dawei Mountain area) were released at the promotion conference. They involve tourist attractions, B&Bs and food in the Dawei Mountain area. After feasting their eyes on azalea flowers at the Dawei Mountain National Forest Park, tourists can experience ancient paper-making techniques and other intangible cultural heritage at Zhangfang Town, visit internet-famous tourist sites during the day and watch the Milky Way at night at Xiaohe Township, stay at B&Bs and indulge themselves in stunning natural scenery at Dahu Town, or appreciate ancient bridges and old streets and taste Liuyang delicacies at Baisha Ancient Town.
During the festival, seven fireworks displays will be staged in Liuyang, including four during the May Day holiday and three on the weekends. Meanwhile, the internet-famous singer Tang Yi, who has tens of millions of fans, will perform live at Dawei Mountain on May 3, 4 and 5. Tourists with entrance tickets of the scenic area can watch the performances for free.
