The ancient dwelling compound in Zhongtian Village, Miaoqian Town, Changning City, Hengyang was originally constructed for the purposes of stationing troops and reclaiming farmlands in early Ming Dynasty. It is a historic testament of the Wei-so military system initiated in the Ming Dynasty and the Green Standard Army system in early Qing Dynasty. It made the list of China's first batch of traditional villages under state protection, and was registered as a key cultural relic site under state protection in 2019. It has been well-preserved with distinctive characteristics and of great significance for the studies of such "military dwellings" in the Ming and Qing dynasties.
