The 13th day of the third Chinese lunar month, on May 2 this year, marked the "San Yue Shi San" Festival of the Gudiao Yao ethnic group. Gudiao, Qingxi, Fuling, and Goulan Yao groups are the four major branches of Yao ethnic minority in Jiangyong County, Yongzhou. On every 13th day of the third lunar month, Gudiao Yao people would invite fellows of the other three Yao branches to get together. They made Aiye Ciba, a kind of glutinous rice cake mixed with Chinese mugwort leaves, and sang and danced to pray for a bumper harvest and prosperous year.
