The 2024 World Computing Conference (WCC), themed "Calculating the World to Create a New Era – Calculating the New Quality Productive Forces", opened in Changsha on September 24.

Shen Xiaoming, secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee, attended and addressed the opening ceremony. Mao Weiming, deputy secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and governor of Hunan Province, delivered a speech. Secretary Shen, Governor Mao, and some attending guests visited the innovative achievements exhibition before the opening ceremony.

Xie Yuansheng, member of the CPC Leadership Group of China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, gave a speech. Provincial leaders Wu Guiying, Qin Guowen, Zhang Jianfei, Zhou Haibing, Cao Zhiqiang, and Li Min; academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering Pan Yunhe, Song Junqiang, Liu Yongjian, and Yang Changfeng; academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Li Xiang, Wang Huaimin, and Hu Shimin; foreign academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Fan Wenfei; and other guests attended. A Changsha Initiative on Green Intelligent Computing was announced at the opening ceremony. At the following theme report session, Pan Yunhe, Wang Huaimin, Fan Wenfei, Piero Scaruffi, Li Zixue, and Yu Yingtao made theme reports.
