Globally Endangered Black-faced Spoonbills Appear in South Dongting Lake

A black-faced spoonbill was recently filmed by a working staff of the Duogan Isle Protection Station under the Nanxian County Administration of the South Dongting Lake Natural Reserve, Yiyang City.

The black-faced spoonbill is a first-class protected animal in China, and is classified as a globally endangered species on the IUCN's Red List. This was the first record of such rare bird in the South Dongting Lake Area, demonstrating breakthrough progress in ecological conservation efforts in this area.

The black-faced spoonbill is a large white wading bird whose distinctive spoon-shaped beak looks like Pipa, a traditional Chinese musical instrument. Being extremely rare around the world, it has been classified as a globally endangered species on the IUCN's Red List.
