When it comes to celebrating the Spring Festival, stocking up on Chinese New Year’s goods is definitely an important part. In Shibadong Village, smoking bacon, making glutinous rice cakes, and stuffing sausages are necessary preparations for the Chinese New Year.
In addition to the necessary Chinese New Year goods, Yang Dongshi, a retired teacher in the village, also introduced us to the unique Chinese New Year customs of Shibadong Village.
Whether it is the villagers gathering to drive away the “Monster Nian”, or families getting together to prepare Chinese New Year goods and waiting for the lion dance team to climb up and “bite” the prepared gifts from home, vivid and exciting scenes are shown in front of everyone like a slideshow.
Preparing specially smoked bacon, sausages, and unique glutinous rice cakes, all of which are full of expectations for the Spring Festival. Preparing Chinese New Year’s goods before the day is not only a preparation for the Spring Festival, but also an expectation for the family’s reunion. It is also a hope that the festive atmosphere of the Chinese New Year will continue from the first to the fifteen days of the Chinese New Year.
The stories and customs that he told have already brought us into the excitement of the Spring Festival in advance. I really want to spend the Spring Festival in Shibadong Village and feel the charm of the traditional culture and customs here.
